This is how it all happened :
When the war started, the Pakistanis thought that it
would be easy to defeat the Sardarjis (they had heard so
many jokes of Sardarjis & had thought them to be a bit
dumb). So, they started an organized attack on India at
the Punjab border.
Now our Punjab battalion consisting of all Sardarjis was
positioned against these Pakistanis. Sukhvindersingh was
the leader of that battalion.
Both the sides had dug up the ground and were hiding in it.
Time to time the soldiers of both the sides would pop up
their head and fire at the opposite side. This continued
for 3 to 4 hours but without any result (i.e. killing)
because every time one side would fire on the opposite side
all the soldiers of the opposite side would duck down.
Then our Sukhvindersingh struck upon an idea. He prepared his
men and shouted loudly "Arey O Latif...". Now in the
Pakistani battalion, there were 4-5 Latifs and they all
stood up on hearing their names being called. Our Sardarjis
fired at them and killed them.
Next Sukhvindersingh called out loudly "Arey O Hamid..."
and again 3-4 Hamids from Pakistani battalion stood up and
were immediately killed.
Next Sukhvindersingh called out loudly "Arey O Ahmed..."
and again 3-4 Ahmeds from Pakistani battalion stood up and
were immediately killed.
This continued for 2 hours and by that time hardly 10-15
of the Pakistanis were left out. The head of Pakistani
battalion was completely dismayed about what was going
around. Suddenly it struck to him how the Indians were
killing his men. It decided to counter attack in the
similar manner. He prepared his remaining soldiers and
shouted loudly "Arey O Parminder...". Silence...! No one
stood up from the Indian side.
He again called loudly "Arey O Maninder...!". No one
stood up. Again he tried "Arey O Taranjit...!" But the
Indians were smarter again. This continued for half an
hour and to the dismay of the Pakistanis, no Sardarji
ever got up.
Tired, the Pakistani head shouted for the last time
"Arey O Sukhvindersingh...!" But the Indian battalion
chief did not stood up.
Then suddenly our Sukhvindersingh shouted out "Arey bhai,
mujhe kaun pukar raha tha ?"
The Pakistani chief stood up immediately.
And he was shot dead. This put an end to the Indo-Pak war.
Note : All the Sardarjis (except the chief) in the Indian battalion had cotton stuffed in their ears preventing them from hearing anything.
